DrinkItaly Newsletter - Number 2 - September 2010

Dear Friends and aficionados,

In this issue we are pleased to introduce a number of events, new wines and offers.

Amongst the novelties we have discovered are three wines from Veneto; two whites and a red.

The Terra Musa organic range features an elegant Pinot Bianco (White Pinot) and its companion the distinctive Venetian Merlot.

Terra Musa - Merlot 2009

Terra Musa Merlot

Ruby red tending to a burgundy in colour when aged, the Venetian Merlot is a full, hearty, richly-coloured red wine, characterized by an intense fragrance with grassy undertones. Although best drunk within the first two years, with age it gains refinement, developing a pleasant palate of forest fruits and a harmonious, balanced dry taste.

Food Pairing: The most popular varietal in the region of Veneto, this Merlot can be enjoyed throughout the meal. It suits charcuterie and cured meats especially well and compliments light cheeses and white roast meat, particularly rabbit meat and poultry. For those who even like Red wine with their fish, we suggest you dare trying it with a 'Caciucco alla Livornese' a spicy Tuscan seafood stew with tomatoes and garlic bread. A hearty meal, we guarantee that this combination works!

Terra Musa - Pinot Bianco 2009

Terra Musa - Pinot Bianco 2009

The Pinot Bianco, a vine dating back to Roman times and well-rooted in the Venetian heartland and is less popular but more elegant than the ubiquitous Pinot Grigio. This wine is a bright straw-yellow in colour with gentle greenish hues. It has a delicate, subtle, soft, fruity bouquet offset by minerality. As it ages, this chic wine takes on a more intense aroma reminiscent of freshly-baked bread.

Food Pairing: Because of its fantastic mineral edge, we recommend you try the Pinot Bianco with chicken casseroles and stews, as well as vegetable quiches. Perfect for an autumn evening, this Pinot Bianco would also taste delicious accompanied by baked Ricotta, honey and toasted almonds. Why not treat yourself?

Il Cavaliere 2008

Il Cavaliere 2008

The jewel in the crown of the Musaragno estate is Il Cavaliere (The Knight), a superior Pinot Bianco of excellent character - were this wine French it would certainly be a Gran Cru. Aged in small oak barrels to develop complexity and body, this wine has an intense bouquet with a variety of aromas ranging from vanilla to mature apricot. The full, velvety taste has great balance and maturity; its depth and long finish emphasise delicate spices and vanilla.

Food Pairing: Il Cavaliere pairs divinely with all fish dishes. You can even try it with more sophisticated recipes such as saffron infused monkfish. This wine goes well with soups, in particular vegetable soups or with Italian favourites like 'Pasta e Ceci' (pasta with chickpeas). This incredible white is a wonderful complement to cheeses and also marries deliciously with roasted white meat.
